Tattoo Design Cross – Varied Choice and Significance

When choosing a tattoo design cross, there are many different things it can convey and appearances it can have. Cross tattoos are a great choice for men and women, of any age. Let us help you choose your tattoo design cross.
Cross tattoos can range from the simplest style, to very elaborate designs, be colorful, or basic black, and may depict religious significance or purely be appreciated for their aesthetic appeal. There are cultural significances to various crosses as well that appeal to different tattoo enthusiasts. Crosses have been used by sailors, merchant seamen, military personnel, and ethnic cultures over the last two hundred years, and today are chosen by people from all walks of life.
Christianity
A cross tattoo is way for Christians to express their faith, and is a sacred symbol. There is the Catholic crucifix, an Orthodox cross, and the Protestant cross, which is a basic, simple form. Amongst all crosses, is the basic idea of the intersection of the spiritual and physical realms, as depicted by the horizontal and vertical lines.
Celtic Crosses
A very attractive choice of cross is a Celtic design. These have knots (or loops) in them, which are symbolic of the connection between our physical existence, and the spiritual world – the continuous circle of life. These are popular amongst many people, and those with a Celtic heritage may choose to honor their ancestry through a Celtic cross.
Memorials
Tattoo design cross is a meaningful choice for marking the passing of a loved one. These often incorporate the person’s name, dates, and perhaps a word or saying. These cross tattoos can have flowers, angels, birds, animals, banners, or other elements included. It is a poignant reminder of what the person meant to you. These are typically placed on the shoulder, upper arm or back.
Tribal Crosses
Having a particular connection to a tribe is one reason for choosing a tribal cross. This can be a way of displaying a connection to one’s ancestors, or as a way to demonstrate a respect for, and belief in a certain tribe and their customs.
Gothic Crosses
Gothic crosses are similar to religious crosses, and often have snakes, thorns, daggers, or barbed wire incorporated into the design.
Placement
Cross tattoos can be placed in many areas, and are easy to size up or down if you have a particular style in mind. Upper arms, the back of a calf, shoulders, between the shoulder blades, lower backs, mid backs, fingers, wrists, the side of a lower leg are all popular choices.
Whether denoting a religious, cultural or secular significance, tattoo design cross remains a popular choice because of their striking and powerful imagery. Choose your basic design, and then customize it, or choose something that has been around for a couple hundred years. Add words, or sayings, colors and/or additional elements to reflect your desire for this timeless symbol to be a part of you. A cross, whether simple or ornate is an instantly recognizable symbol, whose meaning can be private or shared through its design.
